Invite Don Brash to join ACT, to stand in 2008 as East Coast Bays candidate against McCully, and to be finance spokesman and deputy leader.
It will be your best ever chance to revitalise ACT, now that the Nats are on the slow train to their comfort zone of platitudes and status quo politics. While the Nats fight for the centre, ACT can take back those who believe in less government - it does believe in that (doesn't it?)

This comment is totally unrelated, but from a while back when discussing the ngauranga to airport study you mentioned you had seen the original motorway plans. Where did you get them? I really want to see them for myself.

As an ACT man I would welcome Brash with open arms....not as leader but in a position to put his skills and principles into use where they never could have been in National...
plus what a stir it would cause...;-)
Good idea, Scott. Now that, as I said in my blog, the so-called "dream team" are in charge of National, the low of the 2002 elections could be on the cards again. Key stands for everything and nothing, only the second of which will be achieved. He even reversed the one good thing Brash stood for: "one law for all races, even Maoris" (I don't believe National really stands for less government despite their claims).

Second - I think the Nats will not go back to 21%, there is a lot of anti-Labour sentiment which I think is running at a core 35%, and NZF/United Future are spent forces so wont cannibalise that. What will be hard is attaining and beating 39% - it might happen, but ACT must surely be looking to grow back to 5-7% especially if Rodney plays his cards right.
What a change it would be for Don. Working with a caucus who supported his ideas.
